Port Royal Speedway hosted a thrilling night of racing, with the spotlight on the 410 sprint cars and a star-studded lineup. The J&S Classics PA Posse 410 Sprint Series event had it all: national touring drivers, out-of-state challengers, and local favorites battling for supremacy.
The main event, a 25-lap thriller, saw an intense fight for the top spot. Troy Wagaman Jr. and Chase Dietz led the pack at the start, but it was Ryan Smith who emerged as the ultimate victor, claiming the Kish Bank Victory Lane.
What makes this race particularly intriguing is the constant shuffling of positions. Chase Dietz, after an early duel with Smith, seized the lead from Wagaman in a daring move. But the real story was the rise of Justin Whittall, the 2025 track champion, who started 6th and swiftly climbed through the ranks. Whittall's aggressive driving caught my eye as he overtook both Smith and Wagaman in quick succession.
However, fate had a twist in store. As Whittall challenged for the lead, a minor collision with a lapped car sent him spinning, triggering a caution. This incident, a reminder of the fine line between victory and setback, reshuffled the pack, allowing Dietz to regain the lead.
The race then became a strategic battle, with Smith biding his time before making his move. With nine laps to go, he pulled alongside Dietz, setting up a thrilling duel. The lead changed hands, and the two drivers navigated through lapped traffic, showcasing their skill and determination.
In the end, Smith's 69K proved dominant, securing the win and the $6,000 prize. His post-race comments revealed a confident driver who knew he had the car and the talent to triumph. This victory solidifies Smith's status as a top contender, leaving his rivals with a clear message: when conditions are right, he's the man to beat.
The night also featured a strong performance by Max Blair in the Penske Racing Shocks super late model competition, where he led from start to finish. The real drama here was the battle for second and third, with Greg Satterlee snatching the runner-up spot on the final lap.
Port Royal Speedway continues to deliver high-octane entertainment, attracting a diverse range of racing talent. The upcoming event on April 18th promises more excitement with a varied lineup of racing classes. Personally, I can't wait to see how the season unfolds, as these early races set the tone for what's sure to be a thrilling year on the track.
